About
Vilamoura is an Austin-based metalcore and post-hardcore band known for pairing punishing breakdowns and distorted guitar work with melodic choruses, emotionally charged lyrics and a distinctive two-vocalist attack. Clean singer JonJon Sotomayor and harsh vocalist Josh Huber give the group a broad dynamic range, moving from atmospheric, vulnerable passages into explosive screams and heavy rhythmic sections. Their sound draws from modern acts such as Bad Omens, I Prevail and Bring Me the Horizon while incorporating pop, emo and alternative-rock hooks.
The band’s roots stretch back to an Austin punk-rock project started in 2012. After lineup changes and a hiatus, Vilamoura returned with a heavier, more focused direction and released the Buried Alive EP in 2022. Songs including “Double Down,†“Craven,†“Dissolve†and “LOST†helped establish the current version of the group, whose lineup includes Sotomayor, Huber, guitarist Don Shipman, bassist Joshua Valdez and drummer Payton Holekamp. Valdez and Huber are the remaining original members.
Vilamoura’s music frequently explores trauma, strained relationships, personal accountability and the difficult process of rebuilding one’s identity. The five-song LOST EP expands those themes into a connected story about mourning the person someone once hoped to become and learning how to move forward after disappointment and emotional damage. That combination of deeply personal songwriting, accessible melodies and uncompromising heaviness gives Vilamoura an identity capable of reaching well beyond the Texas metal scene.
