Variety Jones

Variety Jones is an Austin-based singer, guitarist and songwriter whose music blends deep soul, blues, roots rock and groove-heavy Americana into a style he calls “soulrootswave.” Performing primarily through voice and guitar, Jones favors a stripped-down approach that puts the focus on expressive vocals, rhythmic playing and the raw emotional pull of the songs.

His sound draws from the interconnected traditions of soul, blues and roots music while leaving room for improvisation and unexpected turns. Variety Jones has become closely associated with a recurring SoulRootsWave performance series in Austin, building an intimate live show around musicianship, storytelling and a loose, exploratory spirit rather than polished pop production.
