About

Vader (stylized VADER) is a Polish death metal band from Olsztyn, formed in 1983 by Piotr “Peter” Wiwczarek—still the sole constant as vocalist and lead guitarist. Named after Darth Vader, they evolved from traditional heavy and thrash roots into pioneering death metal behind the Iron Curtain, becoming one of the first Eastern European extreme-metal acts to sign a Western deal. The 1990 demo Morbid Reich is often cited among death metal’s best-selling demos and helped open international doors after the Warsaw Pact era.

Debut The Ultimate Incantation (1992) launched a deep catalog of thrash-tempo death metal—De Profundis, Litany, The Empire, Solitude in Madness, and more—with lyrical themes spanning H.P. Lovecraft, war, horror, and science fiction. Lineups have rotated around Wiwczarek; recent eras feature Marek “Spider” Pająk on guitar, Tomasz “Hal” Halicki on bass, and a high-speed drum chair built for relentless touring.

Billboard once pegged half a million releases sold by 2002; decades later they remain a festival and package-tour staple for pure death and thrash velocity. Expect blistering riffs, military-grade pacing, and a catalog that bridges 1980s Poland to modern Nuclear Blast-era power when VADER hits U.S. metal bills.
