The War And Treaty

The War and Treaty is the husband-and-wife duo of Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter—powerhouse American roots singers whose live shows feel like revival meetings. Michael, an Army veteran who began writing memorial songs for fallen soldiers on a piano in Iraq, and Tanya, a lifelong vocalist and performer, met on a festival bill, married, and built a blended family before forming the project (name born from creative “war” and eventual “treaty”).

Debuts Healing Tide (2018) and Hearts Town (2020; with Emmylou Harris; AAA hit “Five More Minutes”) led to a Universal Music Group Nashville deal and Lover’s Game (2023). A Zach Bryan collab on “Hey Driver” hit the Hot 100 top 20; the pair have earned Grammy nods, CMA/ACM duo recognition, and Americana Duo/Group honors.
