About
The Afghan Whigs are an American rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio, formed in 1986 around frontman Greg Dulli—active through 2001, briefly in 2006, and steadily since reforming in 2011. They graduated from Sub Pop-era alternative rock into a darker, soul-stained hard rock: searing guitars, R&B swagger, and Dulli’s confessional, often toxic-romance lyricism. Landmark albums include Congregation, Gentlemen, Black Love, and 1965, with later reunions yielding Do to the Beast, In Spades, and How Do You Burn?
Still a touring force into their fourth decade—marking forty years with catalog deep cuts and new covers projects such as Soft Control–era material—the Whigs remain a critics’ band that plays like a bar fight with a horn section of the soul. Expect cinematic alternative rock and Dulli’s full-throttle frontman presence when The Afghan Whigs hit theaters and club stages.
