About
Slothrust is an American alternative rock band rooted in Boston, formed in 2010 by Leah Wellbaum (vocals, guitar) and Will Gorin (drums), who began collaborating as students at Sarah Lawrence College. Early lineups included bassist Kyle Bann; the project has long centered Wellbaum’s brash lyrics, heavy-but-melodic guitar, and a sound tagged as grunge-influenced indie rock with jazz and garage edges.
Across albums and EPs—including The Pact era and later work such as Parallel Timeline, the I Promise EP, and covers like their sweat-soaked take on Ginuwine’s “Pony”—Slothrust built a reputation for songs that escalate like an argument and live sets that favor honesty over polish. Wellbaum’s writing leans into humility, obsession, and unnerving love-song recontextualization; Gorin’s drumming anchors the heavier turns.
Expect guitar-forward indie rock with grit and wit when Slothrust plays club and festival bills—rooms that want volume, hooks, and a front person who means every line.
