About
Rich Hopkins and the Luminarios are a desert-rock and Americana band led by veteran guitarist and songwriter Rich Hopkins.
Though the group is rooted in Tucson, Hopkins and his wife and musical partner, Lisa Novak, have also divided their time between Tucson and Austin, giving the band a genuine connection to the Texas music scene.
Hopkins first made his name with the Sidewinders, later known as the Sand Rubies, before forming the Luminarios in the early 1990s. Their music blends dusty roots rock, psychedelic guitar, folk, country and the wide-open atmosphere of the American Southwest.
Live, the band is driven by Hopkins’ rugged vocals, expressive songwriting and long, fiery guitar passages.
The songs can feel reflective and weathered one minute, then open into loud, sweeping rock and roll the next.
It is heartfelt, road-tested music with plenty of desert grit and no interest in sounding overly polished.
