Rey Arteaga

Rey Arteaga has been putting Austin dance floors to work for decades.

The singer and percussionist leads from the congas, driving a mix of Cuban son, Colombian cumbia, bolero and Latin soul with the kind of loose, joyful energy that makes sitting still feel like a bad idea.

His band can swing from elegant to sweaty in a hurry, with piano, horns and percussion locking into grooves built for actual dancing.

Arteaga has been woven into Austin’s Latin scene for years, and his shows feel less like a history lesson than a neighborhood party with really good musicians.

Expect rhythm first, plenty of movement and a set that knows exactly how to wake up a room.
