About

Nine Pound Hammer (often billed as Nine Pound Hammers on venue calendars) is the Kentucky-born cowpunk band founded by vocalist Scott Luallen and guitarist Blaine Cartwright in Owensboro—one of the formative acts of the late-80s and 90s cowpunk scene that helped pave the way for alt-country. Their sound fuses hardcore punk energy with hillbilly and country iconography: raucous, over-the-top, and deliberately too outlaw for polite outlaw country.

San Jac Saloon's public calendar history lists repeated Nine Pound Hammers bookings, placing the band in Austin's Sixth Street cowpunk and country-punk orbit alongside the venue's broader live-music mix. Releases and live videos—including Drunks, Babies & Fools and Too Outlaw for Outlaw Country—underscore a catalog built for loud rooms, whiskey nights, and audiences who want country attitude with punk volume.

On HeyAustin, Nine Pound Hammers is cataloged so historical San Jac listings and future bookings can match cleanly and surface a full band profile—bio, video, and imagery—when the calendar only prints the act name.
