John Cameron Mitchell

John Cameron Mitchell (born April 21, 1963, El Paso, Texas) is an American actor, playwright, director, and rock-theater performer best known as co-creator, star, and later film director of Hedwig and the Angry Inch—the Obie-winning off-Broadway rock musical (with composer Stephen Trask) about a genderqueer East German rocker, later a Golden Globe–nominated film. Army-brat childhood and a Berlin-era babysitter memory fed the Hedwig character through years of cabaret until the full show became a cult queer-rock classic and Tony-winning revival vehicle.

Live, Mitchell tours Origin of Love / Hedwig song-and-story nights and anniversary movie tours (Hedwig25), mixing Trask’s catalog, Bowie deep cuts, and personal monologue. Expect glam-rock theater energy and Hedwig anthems when John Cameron Mitchell hits concert and arts stages.
