JD Clark plays country music the Austin way—dusty, dance-floor ready and more interested in a good honky-tonk song than chasing whatever Nashville is selling this week.

A born-and-raised Austinite raised around his parents’ Texas country band, Clark grew up with the real stuff in his ears and eventually built his own catalog of lonesome highways, busted romance and Lone Star living.

With the Stuck in the Mud Band behind him, his sound lands somewhere between classic country, outlaw grit and the kind of beer-joint twang that still feels right at home on Austin’s East Side.

Songs like “Lost in Austin,” “Matagorda Bay” and “Lone Star Lonely” make it pretty clear where his compass points.
