Jazz Daddies

About

Jazz Daddies are an Austin-based ensemble that keeps jazz approachable without sanding away the musicianship. Formed in 2012, the group moves comfortably through swing, bebop, blues, funk, American Songbook standards and New Orleans-flavored material, favoring upbeat arrangements that work just as well over dinner and drinks as they do on a festival stage.

The band commonly performs as a quartet built around guitar, bass, drums and saxophone or trumpet, but can scale down to trio and duo formats for more intimate rooms. Their Central Texas circuit stretches from Austin into surrounding communities and south toward San Antonio, with performances at clubs, restaurants, country clubs, weddings, private parties and jazz events.

Jazz Daddies are not strictly a standards outfit. Their album Moontower Nights, recorded in Austin at Wire Recording, features ten original, guitar-driven jazz compositions. That original material gives the group a little more personality than the typical background-jazz booking: polished enough for the cocktail crowd, but still loose, lively and ready to swing when the room starts paying attention.
