About

Jack Owens was the Bentonia, Mississippi blues singer and guitarist (1904–1997)—born L.F. Nelson—whose open-tuned Bentonia style, It Must Have Been the Devil sessions with Bud Spires, and late-career rediscovery put Delta-country blues craft on international stages after decades as a Yazoo County farmer. 1993 NEA National Heritage Fellow and peer of Skip James’s pioneering generation; his first full album arrived mid-1960s, with wider touring only after 1988. Living library of a local style, still Bentonia every single night in the recorded legacy that keeps rooms listening.

Expect Bentonia blues heat when Jack Owens’s catalog hits the room—Mississippi Heritage fire, not a random open-mic Jack karaoke.
