About

Indigo Girls are the American folk-rock duo of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers—friends since elementary school in the Atlanta/Decatur orbit who began performing together in high school and took the Indigo Girls name as Emory University students, playing weekly at The Dugout in Emory Village. Their dual-voice harmonies, acoustic-to-electric dynamics, and socially engaged songwriting made them defining figures of late-’80s/’90s folk rock and LGBTQ+ mainstream visibility.

The catalog spans multi-platinum albums and radio staples such as “Closer to Fine” and “Galileo,” continuous national touring, Grammy recognition, and decades of activism woven into the road work. They remain a live institution: two guitars, two voices, and setlists that move from early independent records through major-label peaks and later independent eras. Expect harmony-rich folk rock and storytelling when Indigo Girls hit theaters and outdoor stages.
