About

Hector Ward & The Big Time is an Austin eight-piece built for big stages, crowded dance floors and the kind of nights that refuse to stay in one musical lane.

Led by singer and guitarist Hector Ward, the band mixes blues, rock and roll, funk, soul, ska, country and Latin rhythms into a horn-driven sound shaped by Ward’s Afro-Cuban heritage.

Ward, the son of Cuban refugees, has spent more than two decades in the Austin music scene, and that experience comes through in the group’s tight arrangements, gritty guitar work and commanding live presence.

The Big Time can lean into a hard blues groove, break into a burst of funk or swing toward a Latin rhythm without sounding like a collection of disconnected styles. Ward’s powerful, rough-edged vocals remain at the center, backed by a large ensemble that gives the songs plenty of muscle, movement and color.

The result is distinctly Austin but never confined by geography—a lively, original band with the musicianship and energy to connect with audiences far beyond Texas.
