Empire of the Sun

Empire of the Sun is an Australian electronic music duo formed in 2007 by Luke Steele (The Sleepy Jackson) and Nick Littlemore (Pnau). The pair met in Sydney around 2000, collaborated on early Sleepy Jackson material, and fully committed to the project mid-decade—forging a futuristic electro-pop sound wrapped in elaborate visual identity: Emperor Steele and Lord Littlemore mythology, masks, costumes, and sci-fi stagecraft that made the band as recognizable for how it looked as for how it sounded.

Their 2008 debut Walking on a Dream delivered global anthems “Walking on a Dream” and “We Are the People,” followed by albums including Ice on the Dune, Two Vines, and later Ask That God–era work that kept them on festival main stages and amphitheater tours worldwide. Multi-platinum singles, hundreds of millions of streams, and cinematic live shows—Steele fronting a full performance band—made them one of Australia’s most exported electronic-pop acts of the 21st century.
