Drew Preston

Drew Preston is an Austin singer-songwriter, drummer and producer whose long road through Texas music has touched gospel, opera, jazz, country and roots rock. After more than 30 years working behind the kit and supporting other performers, Preston has stepped to the front with a weathered Americana sound built around lived-in storytelling, soul and a little barroom grit. His stated influences range from Tom Waits and Nina Simone to Mavis Staples, Jim Croce and The Paper Kites.

His solo catalog includes the debut EP The Road: Volume 1, while the Drew Preston Band pushes the music into fuller roots-rock territory. The band released “I’ll Just Smile” in June 2026 and celebrated the single with a Saxon Pub performance, marking a new chapter for a musician who spent years shaping records and developing artists from behind the scenes.

Preston also owns and produces at Craftsman Recording in Austin, where he works with developing artists and brings a musician’s ear to the studio. His music feels earned rather than manufactured—thoughtful Texas songwriting delivered by someone who has spent a lifetime learning how songs work from every side of the microphone.
