Darden Smith

Darden Smith is an Austin songwriter who has spent four decades turning Texas folk, Americana, and country-rock into plainspoken records—starting with Native Soil in 1986 and running through Western Skies in 2022. Epic signed him at an early SXSW and put “Little Maggie” and “Day After Tomorrow” on the country charts; Columbia later carried Trouble No More and Little Victories, with “Loving Arms” climbing the pop side.

He left the major-label machine for Dualtone and Compass chapters—Sunflower, Circo, Field of Crows, Everything—and built SongwritingWith:Soldiers, co-writing with veterans as seriously as with Nashville rooms. The public story is still the work: a Brenham-raised guitarist who treats Austin as home base, tours the UK and U.S., and keeps the songs closer to lived detail than to fashion.
