About
Austin-born singer-songwriter Dakota Spellman is building his sound where acoustic songwriting meets classic-rock scale. His music starts with guitar and a strong melodic center, then moves freely through folk rock, Americana, blues and heavier electric textures. That range shows up across releases including the 2024 album God Speed, and Good Riddance and singles such as “Freedom,” “Fall Into Me,” “No Light” and “Nightlife.” His 2025 track “Fall Into Me” is a revealing left turn—a love song shaped by richer jazz harmony rather than a standard three-chord folk progression.
Spellman has also developed into a steady live presence around Austin and the Lake Travis corridor, with repeat bookings at Poodie’s Roadhouse and appearances at smaller listening rooms and neighborhood venues. Those performances place him in the working tradition of young Austin artists who sharpen their material in front of real crowds rather than waiting for an industry machine to arrive.
There is still some youthful roughness in the presentation, but that is part of the appeal. Spellman sounds like an artist testing how far a singer-songwriter framework can stretch—sometimes intimate and reflective, sometimes loud, bluesy and built to fill the room.
