About

Carl Hutchins took an unconventional road into Austin's music scene. Born in Houston, he served in a U.S. Army combat infantry unit during the Vietnam War before spending years chasing music. Life eventually led him into education, where he taught and coached baseball and football at Austin's Anderson High School. After retiring, Hutchins returned to songwriting and live performance, launching a second chapter that has made him a familiar face at venues throughout the Lake Travis and Austin area.

His songs are rooted in classic Texas country and Americana, delivered with the perspective of someone who's lived the stories he's singing. Rather than chasing modern country trends, Hutchins leans into traditional songwriting—plainspoken lyrics, memorable melodies and an easygoing stage presence that connects with audiences looking for authenticity over polish. Years spent as a teacher and coach also shape his performances, giving them a warmth and conversational quality that's become part of his appeal.

Today, Carl Hutchins is a regular on the Austin and Lake Travis live music circuit, appearing at venues like Poodie's Roadhouse, Angel's Icehouse and other neighborhood favorites. His music reflects a lifetime of service, family, Texas values and hard-earned experience, proving that some of the most compelling songwriting arrives after decades of living. For audiences who appreciate honest country music with heart, Hutchins continues to be one of the area's most genuine performers.
