Bruce Smith

Bruce Smith has spent years working the Austin circuit, writing folk-minded roots rock with more on its mind than the usual whiskey, highways and heartbreak. His songs carry a socially conscious streak, pairing accessible melodies with lyrics that look closely at faith, relationships, injustice and the strange turns of everyday life. The Washington Post has praised his work as “powerful folk songs with a conscience,” while Performing Songwriter noted the intelligence and distinctive perspective in his writing.

Smith’s 2022 album, 1000 Horses, was co-produced with Grammy-winning producer Randy Caballero. Its ten tracks move from small-town memories and restless travel to love, resilience and keeping the engine running when life hits empty. Songs including “Everything I Need,” “Don’t Forget to Look Up” and the title track show a writer who can turn big ideas into warm, road-tested Americana without slipping into sermonizing.
