Andrew Duplantis

In Austin, Andrew Duplantis is the rare sideman whose résumé maps American underground rock—and whose songs still sound unfinished until they breathe on a small stage. KUTX’s Austin Music Minute called him rock ’n’ roll royalty: three-plus decades on bass with The Meat Puppets, Son Volt, Molecular Steve, Bob Mould, and the late Jon Dee Graham. That résumé is the pocket you hear when he leads.

Under his own name and the Sin Pelo moniker, he writes lean songs between Americana grit and club-band swing. Sin Pelo on Bandcamp is the studio document; live, the Andrew Duplantis Band turns those pages into room-temperature rock—bass that carries melody, guitar that never oversells. KUTX spotlighted “April Fool” from the residency circuit, a cut for Tuesday regulars who know the set will change. He made other people’s records feel inevitable; as a frontman he does the same for himself.
