About

Aaron McDonnell is an Austin-based country singer, songwriter and guitarist whose music draws heavily from classic honky-tonk, early-’90s country and the darker side of roots rock. Raised in Oregon’s rural Willamette Valley, he grew up hearing George Jones, Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty alongside grunge and rock, influences that still surface in his clear baritone and sometimes brooding songwriting.

After playing in several bands in Seattle, McDonnell left a longtime corporate career and moved to Texas to pursue music full time. He built his reputation through steady touring, Texas dance halls and releases including Battle Bend, Lucky Me and the full-length album Too Many Days Like Saturday Night. Songs such as “Hill Country Saturday Night,” “Tell the Devil” and “Born to Leave” pair pedal steel and traditional country arrangements with stories of heartbreak, hard choices and restless lives.

McDonnell’s music respects country tradition without simply recreating it. His voice, direct writing and road-tested band sound have made him a distinctive presence in Austin’s modern honky-tonk scene.
