About

311 are an Omaha, Nebraska band whose mix of rock, reggae, funk, rap and metal helped define the alternative crossover sound of the 1990s. Formed in 1990, the group features Nick Hexum, Doug “SA” Martinez, Tim Mahoney, Aaron “P-Nut” Wills and Chad Sexton. Their breakthrough came with the 1995 self-titled “Blue Album,” which produced “Down” and “All Mixed Up” and turned the band into a major touring act.

Unlike many bands from the rap-rock era, 311 built a lasting career by leaning into melody, groove and an upbeat sense of community. Songs such as “Amber,” “Beautiful Disaster,” “Come Original” and their cover of The Cure’s “Love Song” show how easily they move between heavy guitars, hip-hop rhythms, reggae and atmospheric pop. Their dedicated fan base celebrates March 11 as 311 Day, while the band continues releasing music and touring with the same core lineup. Recent activity includes the album Full Bloom and a 2026 reworking of “Amber” with Los Mirlos and El Dusty.
